GloVal Turf War I

Please bear with me. In a week without football, we journalists have a little more time to spend getting some insights on the little details that, joined together, shape Valencia’s reality in a day-to-day basis. Bits and pieces of information that wouldn’t be as relevant when an important game is about to be played or when the sheer amount of news overshadow them.

You see, the two sides were more than defined. Braulio Vázquez, sport manager and the man in charge of any signing in the team, insisted on bringing another center back after Adil Rami’s infamous interview ended with the Frenchman on his way out. Meanwhile, Rufete –GloVal Academy’s general manager- tried to seize the opportunity and persuade Djukic that he had more than enough capable players in the youth teams.

President Salvo found himself in a difficult position. He had to make a decision as quickly as possible. The first important choice in over four months as new Valencia boss in the technical department. He firmly believes in Rufete’s ideals –he appointed him as the Academy’s manager, after all-, but at the same time he wanted to give as much freedom and confidence as possible to Miroslav Djukic. Tough call to make. He finally agreed on signing a player, as Braulio and Djukic wanted. Braulio is scouting closely any chance to sign a center back who is both young, promising and cheap. Good luck with that one, boy!

Both Braulio and Djukic are the ‘winners’ in the first of many turf wars that will take place in Paterna over the years. All of these men want to best for Valencia CF, but at the same time they want to strive for excellence by using their own methods. This is as respectable and honest as it gets. Thing will go on smoothly if everyone remembers that the team, the club, is always more important than any personal interest. It may seem some odd –and rational- advice, but reminding this periodically will make no harm to anyone. You know, just in case.
