Kindergarten Cop 2.0

‘Les Miserables’ couldn’t describe it better. “One day more. Another day, another destiny. This never ending road to calvary…”, sings poor Jean Valjean. Tragedy struck again this week with another loss, another ridiculous performance, another pathetic effort from the squad. ‘One day more’, indeed.

Describing the disappointing football played by Valencia becomes easier week after week. You don’t need a beautiful mind to do so: adjectives such as ‘rubbish’ or ‘lacking’ are more than enough. Take a look at the three goals scored by Betis: an individual mistake in the first one, a serious case of non-aggresiveness in the 2-0 and Valencia players asking for a timeout in the third one, with the squad completely overrun like Helm’s Deep under the Uruk-Hai siege. Nothing to see here.

‘Walking Dead’ fans will agree with me if I say that most of that show’s zombies could defend better than some of Valencia’s men. The first goal scored by Salva Sevilla was astonishingly funny in that sense: those white and green players ran like little devilish creatures while the orange shirts where unable to move, to rattle the enemy, to commit a foul. Talk about a facepalm-inducing moment.

Things look bleak right now, because most of us know the outcome if this issue isn’t solved. Pellegrino suffered the wrath of Llorente when Mestalla claimed for the president’s head. That won’t happen anytime soon with Salvo, but Djukic must put and end to all this nonsense. The Serbian has found himself reprising the role Schwarzenegger made famous over twenty years ago: he is under the tyrany of a full classroom of little brats who mostly –not all of them can be categorized this way- are selfish, spoiled youngsters with too much money and too little responsibility to be accounted for.

As John Kimble before him, Djukic will have to take action very soon. Swansea and Sevilla are two tough games that will be played soon, and a revearsal has never been more necessary. The manager needs to separate the sheep from the goats, start giving more opportunities to hungry, involved players and reward some of his kids with some bench wood as soon as possible. The party must end. We have had enough. Class dismissed.

PS. Yes, quite a lot of film and TV references, but one has to enjoy some other hobbies as football, unfortunately, has vanished recently from our lives. We wait anxiously for its return.
